Howard Hitsman

Howard Hitsman was a chief yeoman (YNC) in the U.S. Navy. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1952 when he was 17 and later joined the regular Navy. He served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during its final years of service. On Intrepid, Hitsman worked as the captain’s yeoman in the captain’s office. He retired from the Navy in 1974, while serving as part of Intrepid’s decommissioning crew. The Intrepid Museum interviewed Hitman for the oral history collection (OHP.079).
