Jimm Larry Hendren

Jimm Larry Hendren, from Gravette, Arkansas, joined the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps, or JAG corps, in 1965. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as the ship’s legal officer during the 1966 WESTPAC cruise to Vietnam. He was a lieutenant junior grade.

As the legal officer, Hendren was the captain’s legal adviser, and he performed other duties such as conducting JAG manual investigations. Hendren also had the collateral duty of junior officer of the watch on the sea and anchor detail. After leaving Intrepid, Hendren completed a second tour in Vietnam as a military judge and assistant legal officer at Naval Support Activity Da Nang. He was then given orders to teach at the Naval Justice School.

After leaving the Navy, Hendren returned home to Arkansas, married, began a family, and practiced law, eventually becoming a federal judge. The Museum recorded his oral history in 2013 (OHP 023).
