Joseph D. Murphy Sr.

Joseph D. Murphy was born in Rockaway Beach, New York. He graduated from St. Francis College. Murphy was a member of the United States Navy Reserves and served on USS Intrepid from the ship's commissioning in 1943 through August 1946. He worked in the 5th Division as a gunnery officer and a deck officer. He reached the rank of lieutenant (junior grade). After his service, Murphy worked in sales and resided in the San Francisco Bay area. The Museum interviewed him for the museum's oral history project (OHP.001).
