Artist Info
Allen B. Odette

Allen B. Odette served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1968. He served on board the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) from August 1961 until December 1963. Odette was a fire control technician (guided missile systems) second class, FTG2. His primary role on Growler focused on fire control for the Regulus I missile. However, he also stood electronic countermeasures watches and worked with the ship’s inertial navigation system (SINS). Odette’s experiences on Growler aligned with his future interest in electronics and GPS systems, which influenced his life after the Navy.

Odette was from Naperville, Illinois. The Museum recorded his oral history at the Growler crew reunion in September 2016 (OHP.111). He died in May 2020.
