Dennis Y. Sloan

Dennis Y. Sloan graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957. He served as an officer on board the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) from June 1959 to August 1960. At the time, he was a lieutenant junior grade. His initial assignment on board the submarine was commissary officer. He later moved into other roles on Growler, including gunnery officer. After he left Growler, he went to nuclear power school and served on nuclear-powered submarines. Sloan ultimately attained the rank of captain and retired from the Navy in 1987. He has participated in the Intrepid Museum's oral history project (OHP 114).
