Frederick D. Lugar

Fred Lugar served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as a radarman second class, RD2, in the OI Division from April 1, 1967 to May 1, 1968. The OI Division ran the ship's combat information center, or CIC. Lugar was on board the ship for two of its deployments to the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. He recalled that he served as one of four lookouts during Intrepid's transit through the Suez Canal in 1967.
