William Lister

William Lister served on board the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) as its last chief of the boat, from 1962 until decommissioning in 1964. On Growler, Lister's rating was master chief radioman, RMCM. Lister's Growler service came near the end of his time in the U.S. Navy. He served on submarines during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He re-enlisted in 1949 and retired in 1966. The Intrepid Museum recorded an oral history interview with him in June 2017 (OHP 133). Another interview with Lister, covering his World War II service, is part of the Library of Congress's Veterans History Project.
