Edward J. Sorensen served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11) from August 1957 to March 1959 as a lieutenant junior grade in the Operations Department. In 1958, he worked in the OS Division. Sorensen was the coach of the ship's basketball team in 1958 when he was an ensign.
