James T. Clark

James T. Clark, who was born in Maryland, joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. Prior to joining the Navy, he attended St. John's College where he participated in Naval R.O.T.C. After graduating from college, he received his law degree and established a law practice in Washington, DC.

Upon joining the Navy, he was assigned to the Plans Division of the Bureau of Aeronautics in Washington, DC. Clark wanted to serve on board a ship. In 1943, he was assigned to the new aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11). He was a plank owner, a member of the ship’s commissioning crew. During his time on board, Clark served as the ship’s gasoline officer, hangar deck officer and legal officer. He left Intrepid in December 1945. He held the rank of lieutenant commander at the time.

After the war, he resumed practicing law. He remained in the Naval Reserves for several years.
