Lowell Hecking was a self-taught artist born in Oakland, California on August 27, 1908. Hecking worked as a sign painter in the San Francisco Bay area until about 1946. Then, he established a commercial art business in Berkeley. The subjects of his artwork included figures, landscapes and ships, including souvenir prints of U.S. Navy vessels. Hecking died on February 19, 1994.
