Charles Paul Amerman

Charles Paul Amerman served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) as a fighter pilot with Fighting Squadron 18 (VF-18) in 1944 during World War II. On September 21, 1944, Amerman's airplane was struck by anti-aircraft fire while the ship was launching attacks against targets in the Philippines. He landed in the water and was recovered by a destroyer. After this time with VF-18, he flew with Fighting Squadron 151 (VF-151).
