Henry F. Mouzon

Henry F. Mouzon, from Manning, South Carolina, served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) during World War II. He joined Intrepid's crew in April 1944 and was detached in December 1945. Because Mouzon was Black, his job opportunities in the U.S. Navy were limited. He served as a steward’s mate first class (STM1). While aboard Intrepid, Mouzon also served in a 20mm gun crew and was wounded during a kamikaze attack. He remained aboard ship after the attack, and his duties were altered while he recovered. After leaving the the Navy, Mouzon farmed, worked for a plastic plant, and was a water treatment inspector.
