Artist Info
Loren F. Isley

Loren Isley served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) in 1945 as a pilot with Fighting Squadron 10 (VF-10). He flew the F4U Corsair. On March 18, 1945, Isley was shot down during an attack on a military airfield near Saiki, Japan. His body was never recovered. However, remnants of the Corsair likely flown by Isley were recovered from the ocean. The aircraft engine and a wing fragment were displayed in a museum in Japan for years. These airplane parts are currently on display at the Intrepid Museum.
