Benjamin F. Heald was a pilot on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during the ship’s second Vietnam War deployment in 1967. He served with attack squadron VA-34 and flew the A-4 Skyhawk on combat missions over North Vietnam. Heald was one of the pilots who lived in the bunkroom nicknamed “Triple Stix” and one of the contributors to the Triple Stix log, a shared diary that is in the Intrepid Museum's collection. After his time in the U.S. Navy, Heald went on to become an airline pilot and a minister.
