DescriptionFilm, Color; 6.5” reel of 8mm film within a tan plastic canister. No audio. Subjects include: Submarines at port in Pearl Harbor including USS Whale (SS-239), USS Grayback (SSG-574), USS Lizardfish (SS-373), USS Salmon (SSR-573), submarine with number 30 on tower, sailors at port carrying cans, sailors painting hull of USS Growler, sailors bringing boxes through hatch, children and adults at a beach, sailors walking along pier, torpedoes being loaded onto Growler, Regulus I red (test) missile being unloaded from hangar, mountains, a small yellow ship with “32D882 // Maile” with three men aboard approaching Growler, a U.S. Navy laundry truck, sailors smoking and roughhousing on deck of Growler, sailors, women and children with leis on pier, children swimming in pool, sailors posing for photo in front of tower of Growler, a rusting submarine on a pier, and palm trees and houses.The plastic reel is attached to the top of canister. The top of canister has “Phil Coyle” written in black ink and an address label adhered to it that reads “Mr & Mrs Philip R Coyle III // 3135 Whitehall Ave // Bethlehem, PA 18020”. The plastic reel has “Phil Coyle // Growler ’59-‘61” written in black ink and markers for running time and feet.
