DescriptionEnvelope; Commissioning stamp cover for the submarine USS Growler (SS-215) built by Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. The envelope is beige with a green stamped circular design on the right. The design has a five-pointed star in the center. There is a red stamp valued at 2 cents in the top proper left corner of the envelope and features a picture of a side profile image of John Adams. The stamp has been cancelled with a black round circle, the words "U. S. NAVY," and three lines.The green design reads "Commissioned Growler" in outer ring, individual letters of "U. S. S. U. B." around the star in the center, and "U. S. N." in the center of two rings. Below the design in green ink is stamped: "Built By // Electric Boat Co. // Groton, Conn. // Ke Streeter."
The red stamp reads "United // States // Postage // John // Adams // 1797 - 1801 // 2 Cents 2."
