DescriptionPlaque; Wood shield shaped base with a circular metal plaque nailed to base in the center. The center plaque is the first Growler insignia that reads “USS Growler // SSG 577” and the Latin motto “Telo utor // peregrinabor” (have missile, will travel). The insignia’s imagery depicts the globe and has a blue border, orange continents and yellow oceans. The submarine Growler is positioned in the Atlantic Ocean with a Regulus II missile taking off in the center of the image. Underneath is a plaque that reads “LTJG D. Y. Sloan, USN // Commissary officer/ gunnery officer // USS Growler (SSG-577) // Jun 1959 - Aug 1960”. The back has one hole for hanging.On View
