DescriptionDigitized slide, Color; Personal horizontal image looking down from the island on a Grumman C-1 Trader, COD aircraft, taking off. Donor misidentifies the aircraft as an S2F Tracker, outward apperance is similar. There is a flight deck personnel in a yellow long sleeved shirt on the starboard side of the deck. There is another naval ship sailing off the port side of the deck. The open water is calm and the sky is slightly gray.The donor has provided the following caption, “S2F Tracker on a deck run. The Tracker did not use catapult launch system. The Trackers primary mission was ASW when radome equipped. Its secondary mission was transport of personnel, equipment and mail. All onboard called it “The Mail Plane”. Always a welcome sight!”
