DescriptionPhotograph, Color; Official horizontal image of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid at sea. There is a Grumman S-2G Tracker taking off from the flight deck. There is another Grumman S-2G Tracker on the angled flight deck. There are other aircraft visible on the flight deck including Douglas A-4E Skyhawks and Grumman E-1B Tracers. The ship has waves in its wake and the rest of the ocean is calm around it. The sky is hazy. The upper right corner of the image has a handwritten inscription that reads "To Cpl Mehlig, USMC // C.S. Williams Jr. // Captain, USN // C.O. USS Intrepid // 12-22-72" in black ink. There is a white border around the image.
