DescriptionExtent: 1 folderNewsletter; 2 Helicopter combat support squadron HC-2 Detachment 11 familygrams. No date and December 16, 1968
- These letters to the families of Detachment 11, from Officer in Charge John A. Hicket, describe the squadron's movements with USS Intrepid from July to September 1968.
The familygrams mention ports of call they visited, which include Rio de Janeiro, the Philippines, Subic Bay, Sasebo, Nagasaki, Hong Kong and Singapore, and what they did while there, such as shopping and sightseeing. They discuss various recreational activities, squadron promotions and those who have signed up for more time, Intrepid's Battle Efficiency "E" award, a USO show, Intrepid's 25th anniversary (including a 2,000-pound cake), and updates about squadron personnel and their families. It also describes some of the squadron's work while on the line, such as repairs, qualifications, rescues, mail flights, "Holy Helo" trips and daily life on board during the line period.
The first letter ends urging families to not send any gifts that could be easily damaged in light of the coming holidays. The second letter ends by describing Intrepid's schedule for its last line period and its expected date home to Norfolk.
