DescriptionPhotograph, Color; Personal horizontal image of the submarines USS Growler and USS Grayback in port at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Growler is closer to the pier, and only Grayback's sail is visible. There are sailors visible on the dock next to the submarines and some are visible on top of Grayback's sail at right. One sailor has the visible rating of fire control technician third class. Some of the men are wearing U.S. Navy enlisted dress white uniforms and some are wearing work dungaree uniforms. Most are wearing white enlisted caps, also known as "Dixie cups." One man on the sail of the submarine on the right is wearing an officer's khaki work uniform and garrison cap. There is a large red and white flower lei on Growler's sail. The sky is blue with clouds.Donor file name reads "Growler & Grayback at Mare Island."
