DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Personal horizontal image of a crew member in the oil and water testing lab on USS Intrepid. He is reaching into the open boiler water test cabinet and manipulating objects within. The man has dark hair and medium-light skin, and is wearing a U.S. Navy chambray short-sleeved work shirt with the insignia of a third class petty officer. In his left hand, the sailor is holding a dark-colored sample jar. In his right hand, he is holding a pipette over a while ladle-like receptacle inside the cabinet. The cabinet itself has several glass bottles inside of it. The largest of the bottles, some clear and some opaque, are resting on the bottom of the cabinet. Two small bottles with dropper caps are clipped to the inside walls of the cabinet, with an empty clip for another. Two more small bottles are clipped to the inside of the cabinet door. Also on the inside of the cabinet door is an instruction sheet with printed text. All that is legible is part of the header, which reads “Test Procedure.” Wires, piping and a gauge are visible above the cabinet, and a sink is visible below it. On a counter to the left of the sink is a test tube and a bottle, as well as a jar with the words “Rich // dairy creamer” printed on an attached label. To the right of the cabinet there is a shelf with a mirror resting on it. There is a white border on the image with “Sep 67” printed in black ink. Back has “4” handwritten in blue ink and a repeating watermark which reads “A Kodak Paper.”
