DescriptionPatch, Insignia; Round gray, blue, gold, purple, and black embroidered USS Intrepid insignia seal patch. The thread is metallic. The patch is attached to a black felt backing and is encased by a circular bronze frame with beveled edges. It is glazed with acrylic plastic. The Intrepid seal reads “USS Intrepid // CVA-11" in purple thread and the Latin motto "In Mare // In Coelo” (In the sea, in the sky) in gold thread. The seal’s imagery is divided in the center by a six-pointed gold star. The left half of the circle is dark blue with an image of an aircraft carrier below latitude and longitude lines. The right half is light blue with eight four-pointed gold stars and an aircraft with three jet streams trailing behind it. There is a gold rope wrapped around the circular seal that is knotted at the bottom.On the reverse there are two one-hole D-rings on the upper left and upper right of the backing paper. They are secured to the frame with one screw in each D-ring. There is a black label at top center. Text printed in white ink on the label reads "D-8311-GD".
