DescriptionJacket, Flight; Brown leather G-1 flight jacket or bomber jacket with brown fur trim collar and brown fabric waistband. The jacket has a front zipper closure and two exterior button flap closure pockets. There is a leather nametag sewn on the exterior front proper left. The tag has gold embossing with an image of naval aviator wings and reads “Oscar A Placco // LT JG // USNR.” There are three patches sewn on the exterior of the jacket, one at each shoulder and another on the front proper right. There is a black fabric label with yellow thread sewn on the interior collar that reads “Flight Jacket // Intermediate G-1 // Specification MIL-J-7823 (AER) // CAGLECO SPORTSWEAR // Contract NC (?) 383-28657A // Size 42.”The embroidered patch on the exterior front proper right is circular with a white banner below that reads “Hell's Angels.” This patch is associated with Fighting Squadron 71 (VF-71). The patch depicts an image of a cartoon devil with a finger to his lips and a halo overhead on a blue background. Yellow, red and black flames are at bottom.
The embroidered patch on the proper right shoulder is circular and depicts the USS Intrepid insignia, which reads “USS Intrepid // CVS-11" and the Latin motto "In Mare // In Coelo” (In the sea, in the sky). The insignia’s imagery is divided in the center by a six-pointed gold star. The left half of the circle is dark blue with an image of an aircraft carrier below latitude and longitude lines. The right half is light blue with six four-pointed gold stars.
The embroidered patch on the proper left shoulder is in the shape of a triangle, with the base at the top and vertex pointing down, with a white background. There are six embroidered stars across the base. In the center is a knight wearing a helmet with a shield in front and a lightning bolt on either side. The shield has scalloped top edges angled diagonally toward the center and is split into four different colored quadrants: yellow, red, blue and orange. This patch is associated with Carrier Air Wing 6 (CVW-6).
