DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of about 40 airmen sit in a ready room wearing leather flight helmets, radio headsets, goggles, and life vests with dye packs. The man sitting second from the left on the first row has a topless pin-up girl hand-drawn on his life vest and another man has “Katke JB” written on his vest. The men are members of Air Group 6 and likely are members of torpedo squadron VT-6, based on Katke's name. The men, all of whom are light-skinned, all seem to be looking at or listening to someone giving flight instructions to the right of the photographer. There is a white border around the image and “227131” written in black ink in the lower right corner. The back has "Jan 30, 1944 Marshall Is. // The pilots - gunners A.G. 6 // get instructions. // Are you in photo? #227131”, "80-G-227131 Some squadron in ready // room prior to taking off to strike // the Marshall Islands. early Feb. // 1944. We hit Roi, Namur Ankwajahine // in the Marshalls" and "The Squadron in Ready Room // get their instructions before takeoff //on bomb run to Roi Is. in the // Marshalls and also Japan. (crossed out) // Feb. 1944." written, "Credit National Archives" stamped in the right corner, and "80-G-227131" written underneath it.
