DescriptionSlide, Color; Personal horizontal photo of the control room and attack center on the submarine USS Growler, looking forward at the steering console. Various indicators, gauges and controls are visible on the console. At the top of the console is a clock. Controls are (left to right) stern plane control, bow plane control and steering control. On the back of the seats are hand cranks used in cases of hydraulic failure. Sitting in the steering control seat at right is Tom Burns, nicknamed Rags. He is wearing a blue work shirt. Tags hanging from equipment are from the decommissioning process, which indicate a photo date of 1964.Slide mount has “Made in U.S.A.” printed in black on one side. “Kodachrome // duplicate // made by Kodak” printed in black on the other side.
