Raymond T. Stone

BiographyRaymond T. Stone, from Cedarhurst, New York, served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) during World War II. He was a plank owner--a member of the ship's commissioning crew--and left the crew on June 15, 1945. On Intrepid, he served as a radarman second class, RD2. He worked in the combat information center (CIC) operating radar scopes and tracking aircraft. He also experienced kamikaze attacks. During his time on Intrepid, he kept a diary, which is part of the Intrepid Museum's collection. He later used the diary as the basis for his memoir, "My Ship! The USS Intrepid" (2004).

Stone began a career in advertising after his time in the U.S. Navy. Stone was very involved with the Intrepid Museum and the USS Intrepid Association of Former Crew Members. Stone also was interviewed for the Intrepid Museum's oral history collection (OHP.007).
