BiographyJames VanLiere served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1969. He was a pilot on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during the ship’s second Vietnam War deployment in 1967. He was a lieutenant with attack squadron VA-34 and flew the A-4 Skyhawk on combat missions over North Vietnam. VanLiere was one of the pilots who lived in the bunkroom nicknamed “Triple Stix” and one of the contributors to the Triple Stix log, a shared diary that is in the Intrepid Museum's collection. VanLiere was interviewed for the Museum's oral history collection (OHP.084).
