BiographyBernard E. Fipp served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1969, after briefly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a pilot on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) during the ship’s second Vietnam War deployment in 1967. He was a lieutenant with attack squadron VA-34 and flew the A-4 Skyhawk on combat missions over North Vietnam. After this time in the Navy, Fipp went on to a career in real estate. He remained in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was honorably discharged from the Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander in 1979.

Fipp was one of the pilots who lived in the bunkroom nicknamed “Triple Stix” and one of the contributors to the Triple Stix log, a shared diary that is in the Intrepid Museum's collection. Fipp published a book "Triple Sticks: Tales of a Few Young Men in the 1960s," which is based on the diary. The Museum interviewed Fipp for the oral history collection (OHP.056).
