Cornelius Brown

BiographyCornelius Brown, from Washington, DC, served aboard the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577) from 1958 to 1960, as an engineman second class (EN2). Brown’s career in the U.S. Navy began in 1955 and ended in 1995, involving time on active duty and in the reserve. Besides Growler, he also served aboard the submarines USS Redfin, USS Archerfish, USS Scamp and USS Gudgeon. After leaving the Navy, Brown briefly worked for Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He then worked for the Berkeley School District, initially as an operating engineer in the steam plant at the high school, and eventually becoming operations manager for the entire school district.
