Charles S. Williams Jr.

BiographyCharles S. Williams Jr. served in the U.S. Navy for 38 years. He first enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and served on board a battleship. He was then selected for the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned an ensign in 1945. He earned his naval aviator wings in 1949.

Williams commanded anti-submarine squadrons and the oiler USS Platte (AO-24) before assuming command of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11). He served as the commanding officer from April 30, 1971 until December 22, 1972. He held the rank of captain at the time.

Williams retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of rear admiral. He died in 2007 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
