DescriptionDiary; December 11, 1962–February 7, 1963 (CA 33). Green fabric covered diary that has "Pierre" written vertically on the cover. The title page has "Pierre // Gregory // Kochera" handwritten in pencil.The diary is a document of life on board the submarine USS Growler (SSG-577). Kochera discusses such aspects of daily life as grooming and hygiene, food on board, entertainment, crew member relations, holiday celebrations and other topics. The diary is structured as a long letter to an unidentified person about Kochera's time aboard Growler.
There are twenty (20) photographs with captions taped to some of the back pages. There are nine (9) black & white photographs and eleven (11) color photographs. Subjects include Christmas on board Growler, ship spaces, other crewmembers, gooney birds in port, and swimming off Growler. The crewmembers identified in the photos include Shaun O'Shaughnessy, William "Ma" Irvin, Steve Johnson, Don Greisel, and Bob Kuntz.
