DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of USS Intrepid undergoing repairs or upgrades in port. The view shows the bow of the ship, which has what appear to be steel beams protruding off the edge of the ship. There are industrial facilities on the starboard side of the ship, and two large cranes over the ship. One of the cranes appears to be lowering items onto the flight deck. The ship's masts are covered in scaffolding. A barge is alongside the port side of the ship. The starboard anchors has been lowered into the water, and the port anchor is partially lowered but above the waterline. Lines also tie the ship to the pier. This photo was likely taken while Intrepid was being converted to an antisubmarine warfare carrier in Norfolk, Virginia in 1962. The back is stamped, “Official U.S. Navy Photograph // Not for publication // unless official released”.On View
