DescriptionChart, Plotting; Mark 6A chart plotting board (a) and green stenographer's pencil (b).

The plotting board (a) has a writing surface on top. The top surface consists of a square acrylic board with a circular white paper disc underneath it. The disc has green printed concentric circles marked with degrees and cardinal directions. "True Index" is printed in green on edge of the disc. Printed in black on lower left corner of the plotting board is: "U.S. Navy - BU AER // Chart Plotting Board // Mark 6A, Stock No. 26605-390-8421V170 // Contract No. N383 (19-383) 71774A // MFR's Part No. FNA 65A // Felsenthal Instruments Co., Chicago." Printed in black at upper left is: "Fly magnetic // heading as // indicated." Handwritten symbols and numbers in pencil are on the surface of the case. A flight computer pulls out from the side of the case. The flight computer is a circular slide rule with markings for making calculations. The plotting board opens to allow storage of papers. Inside the case there are plastic sleeves and a metal clip for the pencil.

The green stenographer's pencil (b) is sharpened on both ends with printed text "Leadfast // Made in U.S.A. // American Graphite // Stenographer // 490 1/2 - SM".

The plotting board was originally found inside a LSO bag (2018.102.02) with one other plotting board case (2018.102.04a-b) and a plotting board replacement (2018.102.05a-c).
