DescriptionExtent: 5 foldersThe Donald A. Braid Papers contain service records and correspondence from his service in the U.S. Navy during training, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, and after. Donald A. Braid was an aviation ordnanceman on board Intrepid from September 12, 1943 until June 22, 1945. There are some papers and a yearbook pertaining Braid's Naval training in Memphis, Tennessee and Great Lakes, Illinois, as well as papers from his service on board Intrepid. There are several letters and telegrams, both to Braid and from Braid, including a letter to Miss Margaret Fluty in which Braid proposes marriage to her. The papers also include discharge paperwork, service benefit claims, and newspaper clippings about Intrepid becoming a museum.
