DescriptionRation, Field; K-ration box containing food rations (a) and its outer box packaging (b).a) Ration, Field; unopened rectangular K-ration box containing an inner bag with food rations. The box is wrapped in brown paper. Text printed in black ink on the front and back reads "Dinner" and the letter “D” is printed in black ink on either short side of the packaging.
b) Box; opened rectangular brown and blue cardboard box. The wrapping has a curved design motif and is torn open on the right short side of the box. Text printed in blue ink on the front reads "Dinner // Ration // Type K // Open inner bag // carefully. It may be used as a // waterproof container for matches, cigarettes // and other items. For security, hide the empty // can and wrappers so that they // cannot be seen.” Text printed in blue ink on the back reads "Dinner // Cheese: should be eaten cold. // Assorted Biscuits // Confection Lemonade or Orangeade: // add two-thirds cup cold or hot water. // 4 lumps of Sugar Chewing Gum // Cigarettes Matches”. On each short side the letter “D” is printed in blue ink. On the top long side of the box there is text printed in blue ink that reads “Notice – Mosquito bites cause malaria. If you // are in a malaria zone keep your shirt on and // your sleeves rolled down, use mosquito repellent // when out of doors between sunset and sunrise.” Text printed in blue ink on the bottom long side reads “Packaged by // Hiram Walker & Sons, Inc. // Peoria 1, Illinois”.
