DescriptionCertificate, Membership; Order of Magellan. This is the certificate of the Order of Magellan, commemorating a sailor's circumnavigating the globe. At the top is the image of the "Victoria, the first ship to go around the world" with three other ships in the background. The image is bookended by the dates of the ship's voyage, 1518–1522. Around the border are the names of the oceans and seas as well as images of mythical and marine creatures representing those names. At the bottom of the page at either corner is an image of the globe. Ferdinand Magellan, 1480–1521, is represented at the bottom. The certificate reads:
"Know All Men by These Presents: Particularly those who travel to the far latitudes // on the Seven Seas Greetings: // Know ye: That during the interim between 4 June 1968 and 8 February 1969 // the Good Ship USS Intrepid CVS-11 circumnavigated the Globe: // Be it Further Known // To all swabs, salts, square know admirals and chow hounds; that: // Wilfred G. Lesperance LCPL 2/S MC // was a member and is therefore entitled to all the // rights and privileges accorded those have followed // Ferdinand Magellan // Ports: // Norfolk, Virginia St. Thomas, Virgin Islands // Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Subic Bay, P.I. // Sasebo, Japan Hong Kong B.C.C. // Singapore Sydney, Australia // Wellington, New Zealand // Dennis M. Dicke // Commanding."
