DescriptionCertificate; Plank Owner's Certificate for USS Intrepid crew member John E. Sweeney. The certificate has imagery and text depicted within a shield. The top center depicts an eagle with outstretched wings, on the bow of an aircraft carrier underway. There are clouds in the background behind the ship and nine five pointed stars in a semi-circle arching over the image. The certificate reads:
"Plank Owners // Certificate // All sailors and aviators, wherever ye may be...Greetings; Know ye by these // Presents that Sweeney, John E. Cox. U.S.N. was a member of // the original crew which commissioned USS Intrepid and is therefore // Entitled to all the rights and privileges of a Plank Owner on this noble ship, // including a clear and unencumbered title to one plank in the flight deck // 16 August 1943 // Date of Commissioning // 22 March 1947 // Date of Decommissioning // T. Sprague // Capt USN Commanding // A.A. Geisser // COMDR USN Commanding"
