DescriptionPhotograph, Black and White; Official horizontal image of USS Intrepid on the East River. The photograph is an aerial view and captures Intrepid sailing down the East River, past Manhattan, New York. The crew is manning the rails on the front half of the flight deck. The ship's masts have been removed. The piers on the East Side of Manhattan and the city’s skyscrapers are visible at the top half of the photograph. There are tugboats and small boats around and in front of Intrepid. There is a white border around the image.Back has "CVA11-864 (L) 4-13-56" handwritten in blue ink. The year is an error, as the ship left the Brooklyn Navy Yard with its angled flight deck in April 1957, not 1956.
