DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official horizontal image of a burial at sea on USS Intrepid on the hangar deck. The garage door to the hangar deck is open and the sea is calm. There are sailors in dungaree work uniforms and dress white uniforms lined at attention on the hangar deck. A group of four sailors in dress white uniforms are holding a flag covered coffin at the edge of the hangar deck. The pallbearers have dark skin. There are other sailors and officers at the edge of the ship watching the coffin. There is a white border around the image.

Copy of photo not accessioned has stamp on the back that reads "No. CV11-1044 Date 10-2944 // Unit // Made For // Subject Burial service for // men killed in tub #10" handwritten and printed in black ink.

This may be the burial of James Taylor, one of the gunners in Gun Tub 10. He died of his wounds and was buried in a separate ceremony, after the rest of the men killed in that attack had been buried.
