DescriptionPatch, Insignia; Round gray, blue, gold and black USS Intrepid insignia patch on original, rectangular GEMSCO (General Embroidery and Military Supply Company) cardboard backing. Intrepid seal reads “USS Intrepid // CVS-11" and the Latin motto "In Mare // In Coelo” (In the sea, in the sky). The seal’s imagery is divided in the center by a six-pointed gold star. The left half of the circle is dark blue with an image of an aircraft carrier below latitude and longitude lines. The right half is light blue with six four-pointed gold stars. The patch is fixed to the cardboard with a staple.The rectangular cardboard has “Gemsco // Embroidered Emblems” and “Designers and // Manufacturers” printed in blue ink at top. “Styled by Gemsco, Inc. // Trademark of Quality // New York, N.Y. 10001” is printed in blue ink at center bottom. A seal is printed in blue ink at the lower left corner. “Gemsco” is printed at center and is encircled by a ring of leaves that is open at the top and joined at the bottom with a bow. There is a red border around the cardboard.
