DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white. Official vertical image of crew members painting USS Intrepid's Battle Efficiency "E" on the side of the ship's stack at the top of the island. There are two officers watching one officer paint the E. A couple of enlisted men also watch. The officers are wearing khaki uniforms with combination caps, and the enlisted men are wearing dungarees and enlisted white hats, also known as a Dixie cup. Some men can be seen on the flight deck in the background. The aircraft on the flight deck include S-2A Trackers and SH-3A Sea Kings.Back of image has "CVS-11 4734(L) 7/62 // LCDR Slator, ENS Copp, // and Blum BT2 watch Lt. // Phillips complete Intrepid's "E" // official U.S. Navy photograph // not for publication // unless officially released" printed in black ink.
Donor note reads “Not sure but there is a mixup of the names I think, the guy under the LT’s arm is a BM2 Phillips maybe they both are named the same tho O-11 level the stack was my maintenance space.”
