DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of mechanics in the hangar deck working on the engine and wing of a Grumman TBF-1C Avenger, numbered “93”. The aircraft is associated with torpedo squadron VT-6. Some of the engine panels have been removed and the inside of the engine compartment is visible. One sailor is sitting on the propeller and reaching into the engine compartment. Another man is on top of the airplane, leaning over the engine compartment. The mechanic on the wing of the aircraft is working in the ammunition feed access door where 50 caliber machine gun ammunition was loaded. Other men stand under the front of the airplane. There is a white border around the image with “2 Feb. ’44 #227124” written in black ink in the lower right corner.The back has "80-G-227124 On 2 Feb. we see air // group's 6 mechanics working on plane // 93 as we prepare to strike Truk Is." and "2 Feb. 44 // air group 6 mechanics // getting planes ready // for strike on Roi Is and // The Marshalls Truk Is" written in black ink. The words 'Roi Is and The Marshalls' have been marked out with a different kind of pen and the words 'Truk Is' are written in the same pen after. "Credit National Archives" is stamped in the right corner with "80-G-227124" written underneath it.
