DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal official image of two light-skinned officers cutting a cake in USS Intrepid's wardroom. The cake is celebrating the 7,000th landing on Intrepid's flight deck. There is a dark-skinned steward pouring coffee in the background. Other officers are seen seated at the table and standing in the doorway in the background. There is a white border around the image. Caption on back of the photograph reads "80-G-272677 We celebrate our 7000th // landing on Intrepid's deck made by // Ens. H.S. Measham [Harold S. Meacham] and he cuts the cake. // CMDR. Kuffman [Roland P. Kauffman] at his side as the // other pilots look on. // It is // 23 Oct. 1944" handwritten in black ink. On bottom right corner is a hand written note in black ink that reads, "23 Oct. 44 // Measham cuts the cake // conch. Kuffman on left. // Ens. H.S. Measham made // the landing. // The pilots have there cake // in celebration of our 7000th // landing on deck of Intrepid." Under the caption on the bottom right corner is stamped "Credit National Archives" in black ink and “80-G-272677" handwritten in black ink.
