DescriptionSlide, Color; Personal horizontal photo of the enlisted mess in the submarine Growler, looking to starboard. Seven men are sitting at two tables, one of which has been covered with a blanket. The table in the foreground has a black and red checkerboard painted on the surface. Playing cards, coffee mugs and an ashtray are on the tables. Most of the men are wearing blue work clothing. One man, wearing a Dixie cup hat, is smoking. On the shelf at far left is a radio for listening to music. Above the radio is a clock and a fan. Above the table at right is a shelf, and Navy training manuals can be seen on the right side of the shelf. Sitting at the left side of the table are (from foreground to background) Jim Fledge (blue cap, back to camera), Keith Fansler (left of Fledge) and George West (behind Fansler). The men on the right are unknown. All of the men have light skin and most have dark hair.Other images in this series are from 1964; this image may be as well.
Slide mount has “Made in U.S.A.” printed in black on one side. “Kodachrome // duplicate // made by Kodak” printed in black on the other side.
