DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Official horizontal image of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid at sea, with the ship's bow in the foreground angled to the right. Aircraft with folded wings are visible lined up on the flight deck and on the starboard aircraft elevator. The visible aircraft include McDonnell F2H-4 Banshees, McDonnell F2H-2P Photo Banshee, and possibly Douglas AD-6 Skyraiders. Some crew members are seen on the flight deck. This photo was taken before the ship's bow was enclosed. There is black smoke coming from the top of the island. The sea is calm around the ship with waves in its wake and the sky is clear.
