BiographyRichard J. "Dick" O’Brien joined the crew of Intrepid as a photographer’s mate third class on November 2, 1943. He later advanced in rating to photographer’s mate second class. On November 25, 1944, O’Brien sustained second degree burns to his face, chest and extremities when two kamikaze aircraft struck Intrepid. He was transferred to Oakland Naval Hospital in Oakland, California on December 20, 1944.
