Robert "Bo" Smith

BiographyRobert "Bo" Smith joined the U.S. Navy on September 5, 1963. He served on board the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) from March 17, 1966 until November 25, 1967. His service on board Intrepid spanned two of the ship's deployments during the Vietnam War. ‌He was a pilot in attack squadron VA-15, flying the A-4 Skyhawk on combat missions over South Vietnam and North Vietnam. Smith left Intrepid as a lieutenant. After serving in numerous aviation roles, including squadron commanding officer and chief of staff, Smith retired from the Navy as a captain on August 1, 1991. He was interviewed for the Museum's oral history collection (OHP 147).
