BiographyDouglas Peterson, from Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1970, and in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1971 to 1986.

Peterson served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11) as an aviator in Attack Squadron 34 (VA-34) in 1967, during the ship's second Vietnam War deployment. He flew the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk on 78 combat missions during his time on board Intrepid. After his time on Intrepid, Peterson went to Attack Squadron 122 (VA-122), an A-7 training squadron out of Lemoore, California, where he spent two years as an instructor pilot. Peterson was a lieutenant junior grade while on Intrepid, and he retired as a captain.

After leaving the Navy, Peterson worked for Wisconsin Power and Light. Peterson was interviewed for the Museum's oral history project (OHP 082).
