DescriptionPhotograph, Black and white; Horizontal image of a Japanese kamikaze aircraft being shot down just off the side of USS Intrepid. The plane is plunging nose first into the water. There is anti-aircraft fire and debris hitting the water around the aircraft. The ship appears as a black obstruction in the bottom half of the image. There is a white border around the image. Written in the upper left is, “tap.” Handwritten on the back is, “Suicide Bomber being shot // down – this picture is in // Fortune magazine for July // 1945”. The back is also stamped, “Released for crew // Not for Publication”.
